Old news - 2004-->to the dawn of time

news 12/30/04: We have begun the process of adding full shopping cart and automated check-out capability to the site. The integration is a bit laborious since this entire website is hand-coded rather than created using a "Boost your Internet Sales for Dummies!" program box. We will maintain the unique look and functionality of the website, and the cart system should be fully integrated within the next few weeks. Online payment options are still via PayPal or Verisign Visa/Mastercard, but the process has been streamlined and the cart software will figure postage and offer mailing options. The first area converted to the cart system is the Reproduction > Sharp swords > Western catalog section.

We'll be bringing you a lot more interesting stuff in 2002, both here on the internet and at major SCA wars, Western Martial Arts symposiums, and Texas and nearby Renaissance Faires.

update 11/07: another dozen new interesting pieces have been added to the Antiques and ethnographics catalog. Some antiques, some custom work in ethnographic styles. Two new whatsits have been added to the Whatsit page - comments appreciated. For the seekers of truly esoteric knowledge, there's a hidden page with the Apocrypha from P.S. Rawson's "The Indian Sword", consisting of jpg transcriptions of 146 pages not published but found by Ian Greaves in a manuscript version of the book. And finally (for now), I've added some cool pictures of my armor dummy wearing gothic plate armor to the poleaxe descriptions on the Arms & Armor Manufacture page.

update 10/30: three Roman lorica have been added to the Antique costume armor catalog. Nine size XL polo shirts from various high-tech companies have been listed in my ebay store - hey, it's not like I'm gonna ever wear a polo shirt again!

update 8/30 - thanks much to everyone who wrote yesterday with birthday wishes, orders, and questions. I answered email all morning and then slacked throught the afternoon and evening. Will be answering cards and letters and filling orders tomorrow. Thanks!

Therion's Birthday Special - take 15% off any item on any TherionArms catalog page ordered or reserved between 12AM August 29 and 12AM August 30, Central US Timezone. Last year I celebrated turning 40 by jumping out of an airplane for the first time. I'm still not too sure I want to do that again, so this year my present to myself is actually one to you.

update 8/15 - Reproduction Arms and Armor from the Czech Republic are now available!

update 8/11 - The imported reproduction armor page is temporarily closed for reconstruction, will be back with fresh pictures and full info ASAP. While you're waiting, check out the Antique Costume Armor page - lots more pieces have been added in the past few days.

update 8/07 - They're here! Reproduction Arms and Armor from the Czech Republic.

update 8/05 - Thank you very much to everyone who sent condolences for Amber.
I am waiting to see if a large shipment of reproduction arms and armor from the Czech Republic will reach Austin in time for me to bring it all to the second week of Pennsic - will keep ya'll posted. In the mean time, check our Antiques catalog and antique costume armor catalog for more cool things being added nearly every day.

update 7/25 - some quick good news - it looks like things are finally rolling along with bringing you arms and armor from the Czech Republic. The Gods of International Freight and Lords of the Custom Agency willing, I'll have a fine selection with me at Pennsic. Not sure where I'll have shop set up, but the giant rack full of poleaxes should be unmistakable. Our online ordering system should also be up and running soon, so non-Pennsicians, take heart!

A bit more personal news is that after a very long and painful struggle, my Lady Amber's mother has passed into peace. Amber and I will be travelling to California tomorrow for the funeral. My ability to respond to email will be sporadic between today and July 31, but recent TherionArms orders and eBay auctions will go out in the mail today and tomorrow. Don't forget to give your loved ones a hug, and raise a glass for the spirit of Mary Kelley.

update 7/03 - Howdy, folks. I know you've all been patiently awaiting the announcement that we're taking orders on the AAM arms and armor ... all I can say is "me too" and we're working on it, please be patient :)
Added recently to the Pictures page are Livermore Symposium and San Antonio sword show photographs.
Added recently to the Antiques catalog are a selection of (mostly) Indo-Persian weapons for sale for a friend - please take a look.

update 6/29 - okay, the AAM forsale page wasn't the next project completed (I'm working on it!) - some photographs from the San Antonio Japanese Sword Show have been added to the Pictures page.

update 6/26 - Livermore symposium photographs now available on the Pictures page. Next project is the AAM forsale page!

update 6/24 - talk about procrastinating through a Sunday ... check out the new TherionArms tshirts ...

update 6/21 - There are 400+ photographs from my trip to the Czech Republic now available in the Pictures section of the site. Just raw photographs, no descriptions for now, but I'll be breaking out the photographs of swords and armor I got to measure, with larger pictures showing details and balance points. Yeah, I know I promised the detailed pictures to you two weeks ago, but I hand edit this entire site using vi over a telnet session from Austin to the web server in Pittsburgh, so you gotta cut me a break for typing slowly sometimes.

Other happenings - there's now a News page so I can remember what the heck I was talking about back over the aeons that will be TherionArms. Near-future projects include adding lots more pictures (the Livermore Symposium, a few shots from the San Antonio Japanese Sword Show, a Marxbruder test-cutting session, antique Therion fighting photos going back to circa 1982 freon can helmets and carpet armor, and a bunch of pictures of the house 'cause my Mom wants to see them).

Oh, yeah - and I'll be converting the entire site to a shopping cart system and taking orders for the first US shipments of high quality swords and armor from the folks of Arms & Armor Manufacture (Prague, czh). Their stuff rules, this is gonna be way cool.

update 6/07 - I'm back from my trip to the Czech Republic to visit the folks and workshops of Arms and Armor Manufacture , amd I'm proud to announce that we will start taking orders from North American customers *real soon now*. Available will be armor and weapons in dress, light combat, heavy combat, custom, and muse um grades; as well as garb, costumes, and accessories.

I also toured several castles, museums, and private collections of armor. In a couple of places I was allowed to handle, photograph, weigh, and measure antique arms and armor from the 15th through the 18th centuries. Several hundred pictures will be available online in the next few days.

You can find the first "Yay, I'm in business!" About Therion page here (oops - there, back up two words or so)

Most of the first six months of 2001 have been lost in the sands of time ... oh well.
