The arming sword, also known as a one-handed sword or (in some cases) a
short sword, was the continal companion of the knight and man-at-arms
throughout the Middle Ages. Despite the arming sword's depiction in films,
it was not the main weapon of choice for battle-field usage - rather, it was
the constant companion carried in all situations that did not warrant the
use of a longer weapon.
