One of the principal orders of European daggers, baselards first appear at the end of the 13th century. The main distinguishing characteristic of the baselard is the wide horizontal pommel and guard en suite resembling an elongated letter "H" in form. This hilt form results in an excellent grip, as the opposing curves of the pommel and guard lock the hand into place nicely. This reproduction features a high carbon tempered blade which comes to a strong point, antiqued bronze guard and pommel, wood grip wrapped in leather cord, and a leather scabbard with brass fittings.
