Spartan xiphos / lakonia

The Spartan army devoted themselves to being the best of the best, and they were some of the toughest SOB's in history. The main weapon of the Greek hoplite was the spear, but every warrior also carried a short sword. Athenians favored the curved kopis, Spartans favored the xiphos, a brutally efficient short stabbing sword. This reproduction xiphos was copied from the book "The Spartan Army". The leaf shaped blade is polished high carbon steel, and the hilt assembly is bronze. The scabbard is wood covered in leather with bronze fittings. Made by Windlass Steelcrafts, who refers to this sword as a "lakonia" - I have no idea where they got that term from, as Lakonia (or Laconia) is/was a region of Greece encompassing Sparta; ergo Spartans are Lakonians. Spartan swords may therefore also by extension be Lakonians, but I'd never seen a xiphos called a lakonia before the Windlass reproduction.
