Chevalier Bowie knife from the Paul Chen/Hanwei Historical Bowies Collection. High carbon steel blade. Genuine stag handle with nickel silver guard and pommel. Brown leather belt sheath with nickel silver tip and throat. Replica of the bowie made by John Chevalier of Broadway in New York. John Chevalier had a shop on Broadway where he made Bowie knives and surgical instruments from 1835 to 1871. His quality was first rate - one of his Bowies was presented to Edwin Forest, a larger-than-life theatrical star of the period. Another Chevalier knife was presented to Forest by Jim Bowie himself, probably when Forest and Bowie were both in Natchez.
