Medium-sized all-steel dished round shield, more properly a rotella (Italian) or rodela (Spanish) or target (English). These were the favored shield of the Spanish military sword and buckler fighters - larger than the civilian buckler, small enough to be quickly wielded in a fast aggressive style. It was soldiers armed with targets such as these under the command of Gonzalvo de Cordoba who defeated the Hapsburg-Valois pike formations in the Italian wars. Used throughout the 16th century and into the 17th century. 18 gauge steel with reinforced rim and leather grips.
