Overall style says mid-1800's European, other than that I've never seen one of these before. Blade is fullered near one edge bayonet style, but that's about the only resemblance to a bayonet. Wood grip was most likely wrapped with wire. Pommel and crossguard are brass/bronze - pommel has a "Viking face" and two Ceylonese-looking critters, crossguard has a similar critter. There are faint remains of a maker's mark that I'm hoping someone will recognize. This weapon was collected in Java, Indonesia, which may give some clue as to it's origins.
