Mid 1800's, pre (American) Civil War Spanish maritime dagger. Forged copper guard looks
reversed to modern dagger sensibilities, but that's how they were made. Ash wood grip. The
blade is typical of European/Eurocolonial low-caste daggers, humped slighly higher on one side,
with a thick bolster and square tang. The dagger is original, the leather covered wooden
scabbard with brass fittings is newer. This is the "Spanish dagger" written of by Mark Twain.
