Here's a modern reproduction of an interesting and unusual weapon - the
jitte, a baton with side hook traditionally used by feudal-era Japanese
policemen as a sword-catcher disarming weapon. In a class-conscious
stratified society, you definetly have a problem when your cops are ranked
much lower on the social scale than some of the drunken rowdies they need to
deal with - such was the case in Japan in the late feudal period. The jitte
was the main response to "how do you keep 'superior' sword wielding members
of society from harming your poor low-caste policeman and other folks"? A
very cool thing to add to your weapons collection.
