American Revolutionary War era sidearm - known alternately as a hanger, cuttoe, or cutlass. Fully tempered high carbon steel blade distally tapered, with fullers on both sides along the spine. Black leather grip, antiqued black finish steel hilt. The hilt fittings are cast in solid steel, blackened en suite with the locket and chape of the leather-covered scabbard. The blade is lightly blackened/antiqued for an authentic look, and (while not a true training blunt), the blade is unsharpened for re-enactment and historical costume safety. Based on an original of the period, made by Paul Chen / Hanwei.
The cinematically inclined may recognize this hanger as the type of sword carried by Johnny Depp playing Captain Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean movie franchise. (That's right, web search engines, this is a PIRATE SWORD!) (Oh, the things one is forced to do for web hits. sigh.)
