This is a reproduction of a helmet worn by Andy Whitfield in the first season of Spartacus: Blood and Sand. It is not completely historically correct, but it is based upon Thracian (or Thraex) gladiator helms:
The first two pictures above are of a Thracian helmet in the Louvre Museum in Paris. The third picture is of a modern reproduction.
The television series reproduction offered here is fully wearable with an adjustable liner. It is made from antiqued stainless steel, has a moveable visor, a real horsetail crest, and features a stylized version of the classic Thracian griffin crest on top. (Some websites are calling this a "Roman fish crest." BZZZZT! WRONG!)
So yeah, not historically correct, but way cool. I get to offer way cool if I want to, it's my website. (and yes, the above picture is most certainly me. Really. I lost 30 lbs (and 25 years) and shaved off all of my body hair just for this picture. Really.)
