Sometimes known as crab claw or winged claw hilts for their multiple down turned guards, this style of dagger evolved in Italy around 1600 and was popular for the first half of the 17th century. The multi-branched guard provides a means of capturing an opponent's blade and creating the opportunity for a counter thrust. A sweet blade, beautiful pommel, crab guard with ring, a multi-wrapped grip, and a matching scabbard covered in soft black leather makes this a wonderful sidearm for any rapier - or a great statement on its own.
