In 871AD young Alfred (soon to be) the Great lead the army of King Ethelred of Wessex to victory against an invading Danish army at the Battle of Ashdown. While not replicated from an exact sword of the time, swords of this style were most certainly there. The blade is 1065 high carbon steel with a wide fuller. The crossguard and pommel are lavishly decorated with raised knotwork darkened to a forge finish. The ridged (for your pleasure) grip is covered in soft leather, and a matching leather scabbard with an integral belt and an etched chape complete this beautiful ensemble.
