A magnificent reproduction of a cavalry sidearm in use from the mid-1800s through the early 1900s. The 33" blade starts out quite thick and tapers to a still-solid 3mm back edge (with a razor sharp cutting edge) for excellent strength, control, and cutting ability. The beautifully detailed hilt features Russian sage flowers (pereskovia) and is accented with fine scroll work. The grip is carved rosewood, and the black leather scabbard features engraved fittings that match the hilt. Note the suspension ring: unlike eastern and central European military sabers, the shashka was worn edge-upwards.
