We all know the story of pilum - tempered tip for punching through Celtic shields, soft iron shaft that bends and makes the impaled shield useless, yadda yadda. It's a great idea when you're facing armies of tribesmen, not so useful as a one-shot toy for reenactors and spear-flinging aficionados - so these shafts are all tempered so that you can add your own wooden haft and throw them at soft and medium-hard targets in practice and in battle the next time you meet up with mad Celts.
