A long pokey blade on a stick with small winged lugs that can be used to block or manipulate incoming weapons and / or the other fellow wielding them at you - and in extreme cases, they help you not stab more than a foot or two deep. Originally a Frankish weapon, the winged spear also was popular with vikings and was the ancestor of later medieval polearms such as the partisan and spetum. The head and butt-spike of this stout reproduction are tempered 1566 high carbon knife steel polished to a near-mirror finish.
