A very rare piece - woven body armor from the Dani of the upper Baliem Valley, Irian Jaya, Indonesia. The upper portion is made from inner treebark fibers rolled into string and wrapped with orchard fibers for strength. The lower portion is exquisite woven cane. This is one of the most celebrated fiber art forms in Indonesia.
