Baskethilt cutlass

length: 30 1/2"
blade: 24 1/2"
blade width: 1 7/8"
grip: 5"
guard: 5" x 5"
weight: 2 lbs 14 oz

A composite creation of Colorado weaponsmith Tom Hyle. The basket guard is from a M1788 French cavalry officer's saber .... (or possibly one of the copies of said basket hilt created for use in the Geena Davis pirate film "Cuththroat Island" - I was recently informed by a propman friend that many copies of this basket were made for that film, but I have not verified that information). Blade is modern tempered spring steel, quite thick and heavy for it's size. Wooden scabbard and leather hanger make this a great cutlass/sidearm/re-enactor's (dangerous) dress accessory sword.
