War club from the Zandondu area of Swaziland, from the time the Swazi were
ruled by Chief Mandanda Mtetwa. These one piece clubs were made
from the "umncuma" or wild olive tree. This is the original Swazi style of
club, the lingedla and gebu being later variants. The indentations on the
top and bottom of the head held lumps of lard - this would keep the weapon
from drying out and splitting.
This club was collected in southern Africa circa the mid 1900's, and is
an authentic weapon made for use.
