Fraternal organization pith helmet manufactured by Lilley & Co. in the late 1800's or early 1900's.
I know I've seen similar helmets and badges before, but I can't remember
what fraternal organisation this was for. Please drop me a line if you know.
The exterior of the helmet is kakhi-colored felt. Embroidered velvet badge
is stitched on, top spike unscrews and is one of the original 1880's US
military helmet spikes that Lilly & Co. used on many of their fraternal and
ceremonial helmets in the early 1900's. Original scale and felt chin strap
with monogrammed attachment buttons - the monogram is "UR" or "RU" depending
upon how you read it. Interior leather sweat band is imprinted "The M.C.
Lilley & Co. Manufacturers Colombus,Ohio". Except for age-wear to the lower
rim of the helmet where the Lilly coloring/dye technique has faded, this
helmet is in overall really great condition.
