length: 11.5"
This is a small Turkish yataghan knife, 7.5 inch blade, 11.5 inches overall. The blade
exhibits some loose damascus pattern of the type associated with Turkish weapons, but
needs to be properly etched to bring it out. There is an engraved floral design on
the blade, as well as a date, 1314. I believe this puts the piece at the end of the
19th century according to the Gregorian calender.
There are some areas
of pitting in the blade, and the hilt shows repairs to one of the "ears" that flairs
out at the end. It is also missing a small stud on one side of the handle. The
scabbard is leather covered wood with metal reinforced throat and drag in the typical
style.
