Interesting horn hilt highlights ... umm, oh, well, I ran out of "h" words
already. Oh, well, let's start again. This short kilij style sword has a
grip and guard constructed from two slabs of horn - white on one side, black
on the other. The black half looks to be water-buffalo horn, the white I'm
not sure about. Overall style is a Turkish kilij, but my overall impression
is Indian manufacture. The flat-tipped scabbard is another interesting
feature, since I've seen that particular flat-ended chape only on Austrian
shortswords from the 1860's. It's the scabbard style that leads me to date
this as late 1800's.
