Indian ankus elephant goad

length: 18"
head: 6 1/2"
head width: 4 1/2"
handle: 11"
spike dagger: 8"

Absolutely beautiful late 18th early 19th century steel and koftgari silver engraving. Much too nice for the poor buggers actually driving elephants, this rich dude's ceremonial piece was carried by the fellow sitting in the nice seat looking important. Hollow steel shaft and flat steel head etched with silver designs. Brass pommel unscrews to reveal 8" steel spike, a design feature much copied in the reproductions of the 19th century whether the spike "belonged" on the originals or not. This is one of the originals.
